FAQ - Packaging and Anti-Corrosion Questions
What is the substance covering the gearbox i have just received? Does my gearbox have a leak?
This is a common question we receive. More often than not customers, freight forwarders and customs officials will instantly, on inspection, misinterpret the coating and think there is an issue with the gearbox and it is leaking. The reality is that the gearboxes are treated with an anti-corrosive mist, applied to the outside of the gearbox before being packaged.
To ensure Tandler gearboxes arrive in perfect condition, an anti-corrosion mist is sprayed over the gearboxes before they are then wrapped and boxed to ensure that the gearboxes are protected from environmental conditions such as water and humidity that could cause corrosion to the shafts and housing during both transportation, but also storage after the gearboxes have been received. This mist can be mistaken for an internal leak, but when cleaned away once in commission, we rarely receive further complaints or comments.
The same protection is applied to gearboxes that have been grease filled, so if you receive a gearbox that is grease filled, again, we have not mistakenly supplied the gearbox oil-filled, the gearbox will be grease filled, but have the corrosion protection applied externally.
